Today in games design I began designing and planning out my game of what I am thinking of what to have in the game. I thought about the many parts of the game like the objective and the possibility to adding some kind of a story to the game. I was designing this all of course on paper with my pencil to also sketch out some design ideas for the level of what the game would look like. As you can see from the image below you can see I have been going for some kind of maze design for my levels. I have also being doing a couple of sketches for the enemy foot solider and a turret, the boss on the other hand is still a work in progress on design. I thought also whether I should add in achievements and special abilities which is also show in the images below. The overall objective to the game is to complete all the levels and then defeat the boss, along the way I would set out some challenges of course and make the enemies have hard health and damage as the game goes on.

Lighting in 3Ds max
0Today I was learning about lighting in 3Ds Max of all the different lighting styles on how to change its colour and messing with the shadows. I learnt that I could use different kinds of lights such as physical lighting, spotlighting using targeting and free light. I did some experimenting with the lights on a blob monster here is a couple of images of what I did.

2D scripting
0In unity I have learnt some things about C# scripting. As a new person to Unity I am not expert and I have had many error’s along the way but I have been learning to understand them and I have gotten better at fixing them and shall learn more on how to code to get better at making my games. I think the most error’s I am getting from is technicality’s were I may miss a bracket or a semi colon here an there but I’m getting better at fixing my mistakes. I have still got some mistakes to fix but this is some of the scripting of what I have done so far for my 2D game project.
Unity 2d game

I have been working on a 2D UFO game were the player so far has to move around the game without the player being destroyed by the turrets. The player is the UFO and can also be slowed down by spilled oil which can make it hard for the player to avoid being hit. It also has to pick up items to get a higher score. Here is some images of thecharacters and pieces which I have used for my game.


Fun with Texture’s (3D’s Max)
0Today in 3D’s Max I was learning about how to add textures and also how to modify them to make the shapes to look how I want. I learnt how to select a specific part of a texture and learnt how to add it to my shapes using slate materials editor and editor UVW. Below shows some of the different textures I used on different shapes to make them more fancy as I experimented with different textures. Here I made a rusty skip and a crushed container. I did these by using the material editor button, I got a texture that I wanted and then dragged it into the material editor when I could assign the texture to things like defuse colour.



New Tools (3D max)

Today I learnt how to use the line tool and got to understand how to use the modifiers better. We were told to do some tasks such as make a gun with the new line tools. which we made in a 2D perspective so we could map out of what the shape of the gun would look like. After getting used to the tools we were given a task to make a sword in a few minutes I unfortunately made a few mistakes leading to me running out of time during my lesson to finish it and get more detail in but I will work on correcting my mistakes so I don’t have waste time trying to understand how to do something.
