Game asset design

Today in games design I have been designing three asset’s for a game idea. Today the asset’s what I have been making is making the picture for the player a hazard and the enemy. My skill at the brush tool is not perfect but I have tried to make a space ship, a space mine and a space drone. I drew three sides to each of them to show the detail from all sides and I also added a for the space drone instead of drawing the side at the back I drew the perspective of how someone may see it.

I made these drawings by not using the mouse but instead today we were given some new equipment, we got given a pen tablet. Because this was the first time I have ever properly used one of these it was a bit tricky to use however as I went on it got a bit easier to handle. I experimented in Photoshop doing different sketches for the blueprints for how I wanted it to look like and eventually I settled on the designs below

Weapon design #1

Today in games design i began starting off with my concept art for my weapon which I am begging to make. From the the trip to the royal armouries I have collected some images of my primary research and am using that for the inspiration for my weapon design, you can see this in the mood board in my other post of which some of the images are my primary research.

I began making different shapes of what my weapon could look like and brain stormed a bit, I did a few variations of what the my weapon could be. You can see this from the images below.

Eventually I settled on a semi automatic machine gun design of what you can see here in the image.

I then added a bit of detail and it came out like this. The design for the gun is to hopefully make it a bit unusual from other gun to make it seem like its a weapon from the not so distant future.

Overall I had fun designing and creating different images to make fun and interesting designs for weapons and I enjoyed it.

Weapon design #3 Final Design

Today in game design I was finishing off the design part of  my weapon. I sketched out the final black and white look to the design and I also did I final look with the colour added to it. I started off the final image by using shapes to work out the area of the guns size, after I then got to the part of adding in the detail to the image and take out some of the shape lines. I then after finishing sketching the drawing I used an upo fine liner to make the lines more visible  to see the detail, after that I finished the weapon design by adding in the colour with touch five twin markers.

I got some feedback about my design and they said that the weapon was a bit squashed in and that it should be lengthened out a bit, they also so said that the weapon did not need two triggers on it, the purpose of them is to have burst and rapid fire for it but I may give the second trigger a bit of a different purpose for it in the future if I think of one. My design though was a good design for a semi automatic with flame look to being a good idea.

 

Overall I thought that the final design of my weapon was good and that I enjoyed designing it and I hope that I will do well putting it into a 3D model.

 

Mood board research

Today in games design I have been looking at the theme of the game what I have currently been making in unity of my space shooter game. Today we discussed that we needed our own content and therefore we needed our own unique design and to make sure that we have content in the game which fits the game well, to do this we had to think about what the theme of the game is and what could be in it. We made accounts on a site named Padlet so we could create mood boards to showing the different ideas of what we have which could go in the game. For my idea is for the game to have some sort of futuristic robotic theme, I thought about the shape of my ship, the colour, what would it have and the environment that it would be in. From the image below shows some of the images which I gathered on my mood board for my idea.

Overall today I think I have learnt what to include in a game and how to plan it out better I have found the task easy to do.
