Survey Research

For my game research I sent out a survey to find out what people preferred for a 2d game.

The first question was what art style do they prefer.

1

From the results people preferred whimsical the most and abstract the least, because nine people only voted the vote could have made pixel art the popular choice if more people participated because of this I may go for a pixel art game as I am more capable at doing that.

The second question was do they prefer platform or tower defence games.

3

From the results people preferred platform games the most by one vote, again this vote was capable of going either way and from the results both seem to be nearly equally popular from what people prefer so I will decide on whether to do a platform or tower defence game.

The next question was to see if people liked hidden features in these games.

5

Surprisingly only just did people prefer to have hidden features in games as I personally thought people would like extra hidden features for the game a lot more so if I were to add hidden features people may be divided on that in which case it may be a waste of time adding anything in extra depending if I have the time to do it or not.

This question was to ask if people preferred realistic or non realistic graphics.

6

The results said no realistic graphics by  far which is preferred so I definitely will not be adding realistic graphics in not just because people voted against it but it would make it easier in the design process as well as creating the graphics as to how they make sense so I will definitely go for non realistic.

This question asked people if they like to have special abilities to use.

5

The results were surprising again as people were divided on which they preferred yes only just won the vote by one vote but if I do not have time to add features in such as these or if they turn up to be not necessary I will not add them in as it can have a divided opinion on people from what the research shows.

The next question was to see what people did not like one thing  about tower defence games.

survey 7

The results were mixed as some said too easy while others said too complicated and some did not even like this type of game. Another person just said it was not that interesting so from my research I will try to aim my project to being difficult yet straight forward for the player to do as well as making it appealing. I could this by making different types of enemies for the player to face with different animations through out the game to make it visually interesting  and also make the enemies do lots of damage with the player or tower having little health.

This question asked people if they preferred to fight a hard boss or a lot of weaker enemies all at the same time?

9

From the results I have found  people prefer to fight lots of weaker enemies at once, this would also help make it more visually appealing as well as there would be a lot more to look at and focus on to which would make a tower defence game more interesting to people who do not find it as appealing.

In conclusion the feedback what I have received has been useful in giving me insight for my project for what I may end up doing as this feedback has helped me choose what I may end up putting into my game as it tells me what people prefer in these types of games.
